Every summer the club runs a Singles and a Doubles competition. Both are straight knockouts, and anyone knocked out in the first round gets a second chance in the Plate competition.
Once entries close, the draws for both competitions are made using a pseudo random number generator. It’s the quickest way to get things underway, and the competition organiser is happy to explain how it works to anyone who wants to know.
The number of entries decides how many first-round byes there are. Those with a bye go straight through to the second round.
Both are straight knockout competitions, with the winner of each match moving on to the next round. Each draw is split over two pages, the top and bottom halves, for size and printing convenience.
Both draws are posted in the club shed. As matches are played, winners’ names can be entered on the draw sheet. Each branch of the draw can progress independently, so the competitions move along quickly.
It is the responsibility of the teams and individuals themselves to arrange a date on which their match can be played.
Please bear in mind these are intended to be friendly matches, so provided there are no knock-on effects, a little flexibility will be allowed.
Anyone knocked out in the first round of the Singles or Doubles is automatically entered into the Plate competition for that event. Depending on numbers, the Plate draw may also include byes.
The Plate runs to the same timescales as the main competitions, and everything above about arranging matches applies to it too.
